Products from Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro

Trás-os-Montes is one of the least populated parts of the country. The cold of the interior, the olive tree, the chestnut, the Douro wines on steep terraces. From here come transmontano goat cheese, alheira de Mirandela (a smoked bread-and-meat sausage), the fumeiro of Vinhais (smoked and cured pork), the olive oil of Murça, and the black pottery of Bisalhães (UNESCO Intangible Heritage). These are the small producers who keep the villages going.
