Products from Alto Alentejo

The Alto Alentejo is the northern half of the great plain, with the Serra de São Mamede at its north-eastern edge. From here come queijo de Nisa DOP (Portugal's protected designation of origin), the olive oil of Borba, the sweets of Évora (encharcada, sericaia, pão-de-rala), the embroidery of Portalegre, the Arraiolos rugs in cross-stitched virgin wool, and the red clay of São Pedro do Corval (Reguengos de Monsaraz), with the Guadiana marking the border to the east. Small producers from the hill villages and the large estates.
