Portuguese handmade cloth dolls
Dolls sewn by hand, one piece at a time, with a needle, thread and patience. Cotton and linen fabrics, stuffing of natural cotton or virgin wool, eyes embroidered or sewn on as buttons. Some follow traditional Portuguese patterns (full skirt, headscarf), others are the producer's own designs. No two are alike. These are the women who still work at home, on an old machine or by hand, to a recipe inherited from a mother or a grandmother. Each piece takes anything from a few hours to several days, and states the fabrics, the stuffing, and the recommended age where that applies.
